What to Do in Case of Emergency

If you break or loosen any part of your appliances, please call us as soon as possible. Please do not come directly to the practice; by calling us, you will allow us to find a time to see you that suits us both.

Even if you have a regular appointment scheduled, call us immediately to let us know if you have a breakage so that we can set aside more time, and get things ready for the repair.

Wire Irritations

Sometimes discomfort caused by a wire on your braces can be resolved by moving the wire away from the irritated area. If the wire will not move, try covering the end of it with a small piece of cotton,  wax or sugar-free chewing gum.

If necessary, you can cut the end of the wire with nail clippers or scissors that have been washed and sterilised in alcohol. Please be sure to hold the end before you cut it, so that it doesn't get swallowed or inhaled.

Please call us to let us know what you have done.

Lost Separators

Separators sometimes fall out once they have done their job. Please call us to see if your separator needs to be replaced.

Discomfort with Orthodontic Treatment

During the first week after your braces, you will likely feel some soreness or discomfort.  Also, after you have your braces adjusted or tightened, the teeth may also be sore for a day or two. You may take Panadol if you need to: follow the directions on the packet.
